Lori Fruit, DVM
Dr. Lori Fruit, co-owner of Urban Village Veterinary Care, graduated from Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. Since then she has been lucky to have called many cities home before finally landing here in Louisville. After beginning her career near her family in Northern Indiana, she moved west and enjoyed the beauty of the Pacific Northwest for a few years before moving back to the Midwest where she spent the last 6 years closer to her family. She met Dr. Rudwell while working in Indianapolis, and is excited for the opportunity to provide top quality medicine to the pets of Louisville.
Dr. Fruit and her husband, Paul, have a busy house full of four snuggly cats (Seamus, Mortimer, Fester, and Momma), three adorable dogs (Matilda, Addison, and Bullet), and one very sweet turtle (Myrtle). From their home base in Crescent Hill, they enjoy spending their time visiting family, exploring the outdoors, traveling, and enjoying foods from all over the world.
Sara Rudwell, DVM
Dr. Sara Rudwell is one of the co-owners of Urban Village Veterinary Care. Helping open UVVC in early 2018 meant returning to her roots in the Louisville area, where she grew up and spent the first half of her life. She attended Indiana University for her undergraduate degree, earning a B.S in Business. After a successful (but short) 5-year career in IT consulting, she decided to return to school and pursue a completely different path. Dr. Rudwell obtained her D.V.M. from Purdue University in 2009, and enjoyed her first 8 years of practice as an Associate Veterinarian at a busy multi-doctor practice in Indianapolis. She is thrilled to have returned to the Louisville area permanently, combining her talents with Dr. Fruit to help make Urban Village Veterinary Care the best it can be!
Dr. Rudwell enjoys spending time with her husband, Alex, and their daughter, Vivienne. They share their house with a Pit Bull mix (Penny), a Golden Retriever (Waffle), and a cat (Benedict). She is an admitted TV addict, enjoys watching professional tennis, and has played the bassoon since middle school. Many moons ago she played with the Louisville Youth Orchestra, and now enjoys playing as part of the Louisville Philharmonia.
Bobbi Marlowe-Cox, LVT
My love for animals took root early, guided by my parents who dedicated themselves to rescuing abandoned and injured creatures throughout my childhood. Whether it was baby birds, squirrels, raccoons, goats, or our beloved pets. My journey into veterinary medicine began at a young age when I started working in the kennel of a general practice veterinary clinic. This early experience allowed me to delve into various roles, fueling my passion and laying the groundwork for my future career. During my military service, I had the opportunity to pursue my education in Denver, Colorado, to become a Veterinary Technician in 2006. I have established myself in my career across three states, accumulating extensive experience in a variety of veterinary environments. In 2012, I met Dr. Fruit and Dr. Rudwell while working together in Indianapolis, Indiana. Like a long-lost band reunited, working alongside them once more, I’ve truly found my professional home at Urban Village Veterinary Care—a place where I’m proud to wear many hats, including that of Practice Manager. Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, kayaking, my classic car, and camping. At home, I share my days with my beloved husband, our three daughters, and a lively household of lovable misfits who make life endlessly interesting. There’s Jamison, our spirited, one-eyed pirate pug, forever on the lookout for snacks.; Lou, our Mastiff mix, who has never met a quiet moment he didn’t try to fill and Bea, our Lab mix with the gentlest of souls. Clif (Bar), our fearless tuxedo cat, and Bette, our glamorous Exotic Shorthair, who views herself nothing short of feline royalty. Outside lives our little menagerie of chickens, ducks, and one particularly opinionated goose who runs the place.

I have always been surrounded by a variety of animals, thanks to my mom’s deep affection for creatures of all sizes—a passion that my dad came to embrace through their marriage. I’ve been actively involved in 4H, where I’ve showcased chickens, ducks, llamas, and participated in photography and woodworking. During my experience at Urban Village Veterinary Care, my passion for working with animals has strengthened, motivating me to pursue a career in agriculture in some capacity. Beyond my animal care duties, I am a Senior in Girl Scouts and actively participate in my church’s youth group. I also love exploring new foods, cooking, and spending time outdoors, particularly fishing.
